Revelation

Ok, sometimes it takes a 2 x 4 to whack me before the light bulb goes on over my head, or I'm struck with the revelation and can comprehend it fully.
The other night I was listening to James Conlee's CD "Sunday" which is really good. He was singing "More Holiness Give Me" and as I was listening to it I discovered or realized that this hymn is a pleading prayer to our Father in Heaven. After 27 years of singing this hymn it finally sank into my heart the words and the meaningof this hymn. We plead for the attributes that our Savior possesses, so by the end of the hymn/prayer we plead to be
"More blessed and Holy, More Savior like thee."
Our ultimate goal in our mortality is to live, (to the very best of our human capability), as the Savior lived. We plead for patient in suffering, sorrow for sin, gratitude, meekness and to give praise for relief. We acknowledge His gifts to us in this hymn. 3rd Nephi 12:48 and 27:27 are the references given for the hymn at the bottom of the page in the hymnbook and with the footnotes it leads us to the New Testament, Matthew 5:48 where our Savior admonishes us to "Be ye therefore perfect...."
We gain our perfection one step at a time and this hymn, this prayer in song, is one small but powerful way of reminding us all what we need to work on here on this side of the veil.
I've gained a new appreciation for this hymn and for the man who wrote it, Philip Paul Bliss who died at the age of 38 while trying to save his wife after a train wreck which he was also in the crash was caused by a bridge collapse. They both perished. His testimony is shown in his work and music. He truly loved the Lord and loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a devout Christian. I thanked my Father in Heaven for this man, for his talent and for this hymn.
And I thanked my Father for the voice of James Conlee who sings "More Holiness Give Me" so beautifully.
I have been truly touched by the beauty.
